Who read it?

As you can see from our display below we have plenty of crime and whodunit books in our fiction section to keep your detecting skills well honed. Feel free to take a book from the display or investigate the rest of the section for yourself. You can find the fiction section and this display at the far end of the library near the spiral staircase.

Welcome Back!

Summer break is over, A level and GCSE results are in and there is an autumnal chill in the air. The new term has begun and it will be Christmas before we know it (scarily enough the shops seem to think it's just round the corner)!

It's exciting to see lots of new faces and lots of familiar ones too, back for the new college year. We also have a new staff member called Ben Langham working in here, just waiting to help you with anything you need (along with all of us library staff).

If you haven't used the New College library before you should know that it contains a lot more than just lots of good books, with newspapers, periodicals, DVD's, audio books, computers to use for work, cut price stationery to buy and a great Careers and Higher Education section to name a few of the other resources we offer. We also got loads of new books in over the summer, so keep an eye out for these in displays and on the shelves.

On the subject of displays there will be a variety of colourful and changing displays throughout the year to highlight different subjects and books to you. You're welcome to grab any of the books or Dvd's off these displays as they are there to be taken out!

Other than that, we are here for any questions you might have or if you need any help in the library at all. Have a great first term!

6 Book Challenge Draw Winners

We took part in the 6 Book Challenge for the 4th consecutive year, which finished at the end of June. New College Library has the highest completion rate in Swindon with over 67% of those who signed having completed 6 books. Well done to the students and staff who completed the challenge! As well as receiving small prizes for each book every New College entrant completed, they were then entered into a draw to win a Kindle. The lucky winner of the new Kindle was student, Anjila Gurung. We hope she enjoys it!

If that wasn't enough, every entrant was then entered into a nationwide draw to win an all expenses paid theatre trip to London or, as runners up, a Kobo touch e-reader. One New College entrant, Mary Dixon, who works part time in the library, was lucky enough to have her name picked to win one of the runners up prizes of the Kobo Touch. Read more about the national prize draw winners here.

To celebrate there was a ceremony on Thursday 26 July, at the Swindon Central library, where those who completed were presented with their certificates by the Mayor of Swindon.
